Texas Gulf Surfing Association Issues Statement on Sportsmanship

The Texas Gulf Surfing Association (TGSA) reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of sportsmanship and respect within the competitive surfing community. In light of recent events, the TGSA wishes to emphasize its stance on unsportsmanlike conduct, including but not limited to swearing at competitors, rude gestures, or any behavior deemed contrary to the principles of fair play.

The TGSA defines sportsmanship as conduct befitting a participant in a sport, characterized by fairness, respect for one's opponent, and gracefulness in both victory and defeat. These values are fundamental to the integrity and spirit of competitive surfing, and the TGSA strictly upholds this definition across all levels of competition.

It is imperative that all members of the TGSA community, including athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators, adhere to these principles at all times. Any behavior that falls short of these standards will not be tolerated by the TGSA.

Furthermore, the TGSA would like to clarify its stance on the personal opinions expressed by members or board members on their personal social media pages. While individuals are entitled to their own opinions, it is important to note that these views do not represent the official stance or endorsement of the TGSA. Personal social media accounts are distinct from official TGSA channels, and the organization cannot be held responsible for the opinions expressed therein.

The TGSA remains committed to promoting a positive and respectful environment within the surfing community, and will continue to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity in all aspects of its operations.
